what is currently the best keyboard controller for keyboards with 120 keys?

either make one yourself if you have programming skills or use one from older kbd

CPU 8042 or 8035 are often used as kbd controller

8242 was dedicated kbd controller. Beside that exists VT82C42 and VT82C416 often available on eBay from China. Datasheet for VT82C42 is known, while docs for VT82C416 are unknown.
